thirdspace is a feminist, anti-racist newspaper produced through the UVSS Women's Centre, at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. We publish three or four times a year (depending on resources). We welcome anyone from everywhere to volunteer and/or contribute writing and artwork for publication. thirdspace strives to provide a free forum for the multiplicity of voices within the University of Victoria community and beyond. We wish to promote all marginalized groups on equal ground. We strive to gather and share useful information about events, issues and controversies that affect all womyn, regardless of culture, age, sexual identity, size, shape, ability, economic or social situation, colour or experience. thirdspace digitization The UVSS Women's Centre is in the final stages of digitizing the Thirdspace collection. What is now called Thirdspace (formerly The Emily and Ain't I A Woman) is the publication that the Women's Centre produces each year and is the longest running, university funded, feminist publication in Canada, turning 30 this year! Digitizing the Thirdspace collection opens up the possibilities for broader access, interest, reading and referencing. The digitization of Thirdspace (and perhaps later Ain't I A Woman and The Emily) not only preserves the ideas and work that lie within their pages, it makes the publication more readily accessible and promotes greater use. Although the publication certainly cannot represent all voices, the project aims to make accessible and known the Thirdspace collection as valid and historical texts. The digitization will result in an online database of all Thirdspace editions that will be available for public access. Within the last thirty years of the Women's Centre publication, exist voices and texts that through digitization can be re-recognized and utilized. The Thirdspace collection that will be digitized runs from the years 1999 to 2010. If you have contributed a piece to Thirdspace we would love to hear from you. If you would like your contribution made un-available through the database or your name erased please let us know. If you have any ideas, concerns, or would like to be a part of the process, please send us an email at thirdspace.zine@gmail.com. current call for submissions 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the Women's Centre, and as such this year's Thirdspace theme is meant to celebrate the past 30 years of the WC and Thirdpace as well (which is in it's 29th year of production!). Part of this year's theme will involve taking a look back at past articles, art, and other submissions from an archive of over 29 years of issues and bringing some of them to the present through re-printing. We are also asking for new submissions in all forms, such as poetry, fiction, art, photography, articles, recipes, interviews, letters, rants, etc! Please send submissions by March 20 2011 to Jessie, Esha, and Caitlin at: thirdspace.zine@gmail.com or drop them off at the Women's Centre, room B107 in the Student Union Building, University of Victoria, or mail to: thirdspace
