2007 Events
On December 3, 2007, the Student of Colour Collective, in collaboration
with the Women's Centre and Anti-Violence Project, hosted a panel
discussion to address the intersections of race/racism, homophobia,
sexism, poverty, and other forms of discrimination that reflect the
diverse experiences of communities impacted by HIV and AIDS. Through this forum SOCC hoped, in addition to creating a pro-active communal response, to
participate in the empowerment of communities and honoring the strength of people living with AIDS and their support networks.
Guest speakers: Tyler Cuddahy, moderator; Paul Harris, British Columbia Centre for Disease Control; Erin Gibson, AIDS Vancouver Island; Shimpei Chihara, Asian Society for the
Intervention of AIDS; and Josephine MacIntosh, Department of Sociology (University of Victoria).
SOCC, in collaboration with many other groups within the Victoria community also displayed informative tackboards addressing various facets of HIV/AIDS the
week preceding the panel discussion.
